UPDATED

Details: The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a robbery which took place late Tuesday night at Super America at 1424 Broadway Street.

Officers responded just before midnight to a 9-1-1 call of a robbery that had taken place minutes earlier. According to the preliminary investigation, the male suspect entered the store at 11:50 p.m. holding a handgun. He forced the clerk to hand over money from the cash register, then forced her into a back store room where he bound her hands and ankles. The suspect then exited through the front doors.

At that point the suspect spotted a motorist in their vehicle just outside the front doors. The suspect displayed his handgun, demanding the motorist’s wallet. Officers were able to track the suspect for a short distance and determined that he got into a vehicle that picked him up and left the area.

The store clerk was transported to Douglas County Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The Alexandria Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying a motorist who may have witnessed the robbery and may have information important to the investigation. The motorist drove a light colored crossover vehicle through the Super America parking lot at approximately 11:55 p.m. last night.

Investigators believe last night’s robbery is related to two other recent robberies in Alexandria. Anyone with information about the vehicle seen driving through the Super America parking lot last night, about last night’s robbery or any of the recent string of robberies, are urged call the Alexandria Police Department at 320-763-6631.

Location:  Super America, 1424 Broadway, Alexandria, MN

Suspect:  White male, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall, medium to slender build

Details:  On 03-18-14 at 11:57 p.m., the Alexandria Police Department received a 911 call of a robbery that had just taken place at 1424 Broadway (Super America).  The suspect entered the store at 11:50 p.m. with a hand gun displayed.  He demanded the cash from the till and held the clerk at gun point.  He then brought her to a back store room and bound her by the hands and ankles.  At one point, the suspect threw the clerk to the floor causing the clerk to bleed from the nose and the face.  The suspect exited out the front doors and as he walked out, there was a customer sitting in a vehicle just outside the main doors.  He displayed his handgun and demanded the wallet from the person sitting in the vehicle.  Officers were able to track the suspect for a short distance and determined that he got into a vehicle that picked him up and left the area.   The clerk was transported to the Douglas County Hospital and treated for injuries sustained and was later released.

We have reason to believe that all three of our most recent robberies are related.  During the robbery there was a vehicle that appears to be a light colored crossover model vehicle.  We believe this vehicle may have witnessed something and are asking for help in trying to identify who would have been driving this vehicle through the Super American parking lot at approximately 11:55 p.m. on March 18, 2014.  There are also a series of photos taken from surveillance cameras of the suspect entering the store and displaying the handgun and a photo of the light colored crossover model vehicle.  If anyone has information about the most recent string of robberies you are asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at 320-763-6631.

NEWS RELEASE

On 3-13-2014, the Alexandria Police Department responded to a business alarm at the address of 610 South McKay.  Witness statements and video evidence indicates that there was a vehicle that dropped off a person wearing a camouflage jacket in front of the store.  The person walks around the side of the building, returns, and throws a brick through the window and enters through the broken window.  He steals cigarettes and exits the store.  The suspect was in the store for 15 seconds.  At this point we are not speculating whether this is related to our robberies.  We are investigating all leads with this case and the robberies at Subway and Premiere Video.  This case is under investigation.  If you have information in regards to this case or any other case please contact the Alexandria Police Department at 320-763-6631.
